Alnico magnets

Alnico magnets are made from Aluinium, Nickel, Cobalt and Iron and have been used since 1930. Sometimes other substances are added, such as copper, titanium and niobium.

Alnico magnets have a maximum energy product of 1 to +-9 MGOe and do not require coating under normal conditions.

Maximum usable temperature is 450º C depending on specifications, dimensions and system design.

Most Alnico magnets are casted and in this process this mixture, which is liquid, is put into sand molds at very high temperatures.

Some of these magnets are pressed and sintered.
Alnico magnets can be made in complex shapes, for example as horseshoes.

Sintered Alnico has lower magnetic properties, but they have better mechanical properties than casted alnico, with very small casting amount during the casting process.

Standard tolerance for machined alnico is +- 0.1 mm, depending on size and shape.

It is important (be careful!) that the length/diameter ratio (ratio) is maintained, this will prevent demagnetization.

The minimum dimension for a block magnet is 2 x 2 x 2 mm and the maximum dimension for this type is 100 x 100 x 100 mm.
The minimum dimension for a round magnet is Ø 1 x 2 mm and the maximum dimension for this type is Ø 100 x 100 mm.
The minimum dimension for a ring magnet is Ø 5 x Ø 3.5 x 1 mm, while the maximum dimension for this type is Ø 200 x Ø* x 50 mm (inner diameter after consultation).
